If you think you are the only one who finds it hard to lose weight, then you are wrong. Although a high metabolic rate is a great advantage for those who possess it, even they need to DO something if they are looking to lose weight fast.
Here’s a few tips for losing weight without changing your life completely.
1. Lifestyle Change, not Diet
Don’t “diet”; it’s not healthy to limit your dietary habits for a limited time only. You have to make healthy eating a habit, not just a passing phase. Rather than eliminating the foods you like the most, just eat them less frequently and in smaller amounts. You should drop the refined carbohydrates, however. These processed carbs are far from helpful when you want to slim down. It’s easy to cut them out though; just replace white rice with brown rice and white bread with whole grain.
Go low on the sugar. This means you DO have to give up on ice cream, chocolates, cakes, and alcohol. Consume them in moderation. If you feel hungry, drink fresh fruit juice, munch on a bowl of rice crispies or have the fruits whole. Drink enough water to keep yourself hydrated from inside.
2. Workout
No matter how much you control what you eat, the effect will not be half as good as it will be if you compliment it with a regular exercise routine. This does not require spending hours at the gym every day. Choose any form of movement you like- walking, running, dancing, or take up a sport like tennis or swimming. Balance your workout routine with proper amount of cardio and weight training. Both need to be performed under professional supervision; at least until you have adequate knowledge of their functions.
Weight training works on the muscle fat, burning them faster than cardio. Cardio improves the blood circulation and keeps the heart pumping healthily. Do not be turned off by the sweat during such workouts. Remember that sweating is an excellent way of detoxifying the body.
3. Kick Those Bad Habits
Smoking and exercise do not mix. If you smoke, quit. Join a support group, chew gum; whatever it takes to quit – it will help your exercise routine and your overall health.
Any form of alcohol contains high levels of glucose. This does not help your goal to lose weight. It in fact worsens it. It also dehydrates the body. Therefore, cut down on the drinking. Drink red wine instead. It is an active antioxidant.
Most important of all, be sure to keep up with your new healthier habits even after you lose weight. If you go back to the way things were, you’ll probably just regain all of the weight you worked so hard to lose.
